It’s Carnival…

Carnival Time…

Time to have fun!

Although Carnival it's not a popular festivity in the UK, it is celebrated with joy in all Portuguese schools. So, we talked about it in our English classes, working it once more in collaboration with primary teachers and the other AEC teachers. In our English classes students learned vocabulary related to this festivity namely some costumes names. Then they made some works to decorate the school gym.

 

Apesar de não ser uma festividade tipicamente inglesa, o Carnaval é celebrado com alegria em todas as escolas portuguesas. Por isso, falamos sobre isso nas nossas aulas de Inglês, trabalhando uma vez mais em articulação com os professores titulares e as outras AECS. Nas aulas de inglês os alunos aprenderam vocabulário relacionado com esta festividade nomeadamente o nome de algumas máscaras. Depois, fizeram alguns trabalhos para decorar o ginásio da escola.

 

• first grade students listened the story "Ben the Clown" and learned some vocabulary related to Carnival. Os   alunos de 1ºano ouviram a história "Ben the clown" e aprenderam vocabulário sobre o Carnaval.

• Third grade students were learning clothes so I related the subject with Carnival and we talked about Carnival costumes. Students coloured a Carnival costume, learned its name and described it to the class. Os alunos do 3º ano estavam a trabalhar o tema das roupas por isso relacionamos o tema com o Carnaval e falamos sobre fatos de Carnaval. Os alunos pintaram um disfarce de Carnaval, aprenderam o seu nome e descreveram-no para a turma.

Example: I am a pirate. I am wearing black trousers, a white shirt, black boots and a black hat.

Easter

Easter was fun! We talked about bunnies, chickens, chicks and eggs! We learnt and dramatized a song with the help of the chicks and eggs we made. Let's sing the song !!!

A Páscoa foi divertida! Falamos sobre coelhos, galinhas, pintainhos, e ovos. Aprendemos e dramatizamos uma canção com a ajuda dos pintainhos e ovos que construímos. Cantemos a canção mais uma vez!!!

They also made some works to decorate the school gym.

Por isso, falamos sobre isso nas nossas aulas de Inglês, trabalhando uma vez mais em articulação com os professores titulares e as outras AECS. Nas aulas de inglês os alunos aprenderam vocabulário relacionado com esta festividade nomeadamente o nome de algumas máscaras. Depois, aprenderam uma música em inglês e português para o desfile de Carnaval e fizeram alguns trabalhos para decorar o ginásio da escola.

Valentine's Day

Love is in the air!!!!! It’s Valentine's Day! Time to celebrate love and friendship!

Valentine's day is very popular and students love to celebrate it! In our English classes, we talked about affections and celebrated love, family and friendship, some of the most important things we have in the world.

O amor está no ar. Dia dos Namorados! Altura de celebrar o amor e a amizade!

O dia dos Namorados é muito popular e os alunos adoram celebrá-lo! Nas aulas de inglês, lembrei aos alunos que este dia não é só para os namorados mas também para os amigos e família e que é um dia para celebrar os afetos.

 

In our English classes we talked about this day and its traditions and we read some Valentine's Day popular rhymes like this one.

Nas nossas aulas de Inglês falamos sobre este dia e suas tradições e lemos algumas quadras populares nesta altura como esta que se segue.

 Roses are red

Violets are blue

Sugar is sweet

And so are you!

 

Then, we learned the song "I love you".

Depois os alunos aprenderam a música "I love you"

 

All students took home a "heart necklace" made by them to offer to their families. It’s never too much to say “Thank You!” and “I love You!” Here are some of their works.

  

 

We played some games and illustrated the vocabulary we learnt on some lovely pink and red hearts, for our Valentine's Day display. Here's the final result.

Happy Easter

It's Easter time. We always learn songs and some new words related to the festivity. Also, we cannot forget the decorations. Here are some beautiful paitings from students of all classes.

Halloween

The last weeks of October were days to talk about Halloween, a festivity students love! We started by talking about the origins and traditions of Halloween. One of the stories told was the story of Jack o'lantern, which you can read here...

As últimas semanas de outubro foram dias dedicados ao Halloween (Dia das Bruxas), uma festa que os alunos adoram! Começamos por sobre as origens e tradições do Dia das bruxas. Uma das histórias contadas foi a história do Jack-o-lantern que podem relembrar aqui...

 

Then we learned, wrote and role-played some Halloween rhymes. We also made some adorable ghosts, to use in the dramatization of the song... And they were scary!! BOOOO! Here is the song and some of your works...

Depois aprendemos, escrevemos e dramatizamos algumas rimas de Halloween. Nós também criamos um fantasminha em papel, para nos ajudar na dramatização da canção... E que assustadores eram eles! BOOOO! Aqui fica a canção e alguns dos vossos trabalhos...

Students also illustrated some of the vocabulary learnt for the Halloween Display and exposition. Besides this, students were asked to build scary things at home with their relatives. And what a great job they did! Thank you all for the collaboration.

Os alunos também ilustraram algum do vocabulário abordado nas aulas para o placard e exposição de Halloween. Para além disto, foi-lhes pedido que construíssem, em conjunto com os pais, figuras assustadoras para nos ajudarem a decorar os espaços da escola. E que excelente trabalho fizeram! Obrigada a todos pela colaboração!

Trick-or-Treat

On the 31st October we all went trick or treating. Students performed the songs learnt and played the game "Trick-or-Treat". In the end, they got a Halloween present: a nice pumpkin with some sweets in it. You liked it, didn't you! 

No dia 31 de outubro, os alunos visitaram algumas turmas para as quais apresentaram as canções aprendidas e jogaram ao "doce ou travessura". No fim,  receberam um presente de Halloween: uma simpática abóbora com doces no seu interior. Gostaram, não gostaram!!
